Based on the excavated artifacts, this scallop-shaped kofun is believed to have been built at the end of the 5th century. Many items have been excavated from the tomb’s stone burial chamber. Among these are components from a suit of armor, a shell bracelet, a mirror depicting four deities and four beasts, a gilt bronze buckle for an obi (belt) featuring a design of 'shishi' lions with bared teeth, as well as iron swords. The gilt bronze buckle is especially rare, with only very few having been found in Japan.
Additionally, on the north side of the mound, there is a second round kofun with a diameter of 14 meters that is thought to be a companion to the former. In both kofuns, pieces of clay Haniwa have been found.
