Prefecturally Designated Important Intangible Cultural Property Holder (designated 2019)
After studying under Isezaki Jun, one of the most renowned masters of Bizen pottery, Kakurezaki Ryūichi (b. 1950) built his own kiln at Isokami, Osafune in Setouchi city, where he continues to make Bizen ware. While he has continued to inherit and preserve traditional techniques, he has attracted attention as a potter who has pioneered a new path for Bizen ware with his free-thinking approach and expressive workmanship. His works have a strong sense of individuality, thanks not only to his uniquely formulated clay, but also to their shapes, born out of a particular way of thinking only possible due to his previous experience as a designer.
