Mori Tōgaku (b. 1937) has built a number of large kilns during his many years spent pursuing ‘Ko Bizen’ ceramics, driven by his passion for this style, which appeared during the Momoyama period (16th c.) and which is said to be the pinnacle of Bizen pottery.
Although his style is planted firmly within the Bizen ware tradition, his works have received high praise both locally and abroad for their universal appeal, creativity, and large scale. His 85-meter-long kiln has given birth to many works which display novel, unprecedented phenomena.
