The ‘Tachi Dance’ is a traditional religious performing art born in Ushimado’s Nagahama Awarigō district and is performed during the Autumn Festival held on the 4th Sunday in October each year at Ōdoi Shōhachimangū shrine and Awarigōten shrine, home to the local deity of Awarigō district.  Performed by a total of five members, these include a hayashikata, who provides the musical accompaniment by singing while beating out the rhythm on a wooden box with two wooden clappers, and four dancers, all young girls, two of whom play male roles, and two who play female. The male characters, wielding swords, and the female characters, who carry naginata (halberds), dance to the rhythm set out by the hayashikata
