Jōgyōdō are halls for ascetic training where devotees walk around a statue of the Amida, while chanting his name and meditating, usually for ninety days. Both this hall, and the wooden statue of a seated Amida Nyorai (the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life) that it houses, are designated by Setouchi City as Important Cultural Properties. The most distinctive feature of this simple hall is a window in the upper portion of the front wall, through which people can see the Amida's face from outside.
Though it is unclear when the hall was originally constructed, it is known to have been rebuilt in 1781.
