The opulent main sanctuary of Ushimado Shrine boasts more detailed designs and elaborate decorative carving techniques than those of many other shrinesies. The designs and techniques on display evidence the level of maturity that this style had attained by the late Edo period (19th C). Most noteworthy is the roof. Covered with cypress bark shingles and elegantly curved, It is larger than usual, and epitomises the new style of shrine architecture that emerged in the early Edo period(17th C).
Though it is unclear when the original sanctuary was built, it is known to have been rebuilt in 1812.
