Engulfed in flames, five vengeful gods are depicted here in a range of dynamic poses, their hair standing on end. Based on the attributes and imagery ascribed to each in old translations of the "Ninnō Sutra," the deities have been identified as Kongōku (center), Mui Jūrikku (bottom right), Muryō Rikku (bottom left), Ryūōku (top left), and Raidenku (top right). Based on stylistic analysis, it is thought to be a work from around the Momoyama Period (late 16th century).
