This, the second gate that pilgrims pass through on the way to the main hall after entering through Honrenji temple’s primary entrance, is beautifully proportioned and displays aesthetic continuity with the side walls. It is said to have been rebuilt around 1492, the same year as the main hall. Though in the munamon (ridge gate) style, the gate’s four upright pillars, which were added for reinforcement, were installed as part of later alterations. The current door was installed during restoration work in 1976 and is based on that belonging to the main hall.
