From the inscription on the tang it is thought that this halberd was forged by Morimitsu, one of the most important swordsmiths active in Bizen Province (modern Okayama prefecture) during the late 14th and early 15th centuries.
The hamon (temper pattern) is suguha (straight). Work by Morimitsu featuring a suguha hamon are rare, with most of his works being said to feature gunome (undulating pattern) hamon instead.
