Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property (designated 1994)
Made: Edo period (17th century)
Location: Honrenji temple, Ushimado, Ushimado

During the 17th century, embassies were sent from Korea to Japan a total of 12 times with the aim of improving bilateral relations.
When they made port at Ushimado harbour, the three ambassadors were put up in Ushimado’s Honrenji temple. Even after their lodgings were moved to a nearby teahouse, the official in charge of entertaining the delegates on behalf of Okayama domain continued to use Honrenji to receive them.
The temple still houses a number of cultural artefacts that demonstrate the cultural exchange between Japan and Korea, such as calligraphic scrolls written by the Korean ambassadors and Korean celadon vases.
