The large, multi-story sanmon (main gate) of Kōbōji temple is built in the style known as sangen-ikko, made up of three bays across and two deep, with the middle of the three front bays acting as an entry-way. Though not the highest ranking style of gate, it does show all the features of a fully-fledged temple gate.
Although when the original gate was built is unknown, according to the building’s commemorative inscription (munafuda), the current structure was rebuilt in 1723.
