Prefecturally Designated Important Cultural Property (designated 1956)
Made: Rebuilt in Tenshō 7 (1579)
Location: Jōenji temple, Honjō, Oku
Dimensions: 11.85m×11.85m

It is said that this hall, rebuilt in 1579, was moved to its current location during the Genroku period (1688-1704).
One distinguishing feature is this hondō’s floor plan, which harks back to those of medieval esoteric Buddhist temples. Also worthy of note is the presence of materials from the Momoyama period(late 16th century)in its construction which were reused during its relocation in the Genroku period. One example is    the kaerumata, decorative struts named for their resemblance to splayed frogs’ legs which sit on the walls between the vertical pillars near to the ceiling. They demonstrate a Momoyama style, suggesting that at least some parts have been preserved since the Momoyama period.
