Prefecturally Designated Important Cultural Property (designated 2000)
Made: Kamakura period
Location: Kōbōji temple, Senzu, Ushimado
Dimensions: Height: 194cm
This Amida sculpture is used during the Kōbōji temple Nerikuyō ceremony to welcome Kannon Bodhisattva and others in front of the hall that is used to represent paradise.
This wooden statue is hollow inside so that it can be worn. A person puts the statue over their head and torso and peers out from a small eyehole in the statue’s chest. Very few such wearable statues remain, making this an important relic.
