Dimensions: Height: 60.0cm
A vase used for displaying flower offerings on the shumidan (altar bearing a Buddhist image) in a temple’s main hall, according to its inscription it was donated in Eishō 9 (1512) to Jōenji temple by Kimura Saburōuemon of Imbe.
This large vase measures 60 centimeters in height and appears to have been made using a coiling technique, after which it was carved with a wooden spatula and adjusted on a potter's wheel. Fired to the reddish-brown color distinctive of Bizen ware, abundant yellow-brown speckles can be seen near to the mouth of the vase and around its shoulders. This so-called goma pattern is named for its resemblance to sprinkled sesame seeds.
