Made: Eiroku 12 (1569)
Location: Jōenji temple, Honjō, Oku
Dimensions: Height: 52.0cm
This vase, which according to its inscription was donated to Jōenji temple by Kimura Yojirō of Imbe in Eiroku 12 (1569), was likely made to form a pair with another vase, dated to the earlier Eishō era (1504-1521).
It seems that this vase was made to replace one half of the earlier-made pair after it was lost. Although it is slightly smaller than the Eishō era vase, this is likely because it was originally made to match the size of the Eishō vase, but shrank slightly when it was dried and fired.
Just as with the Eishō era vase, it was likely initially made with a coiling technique, inscribed with a wooden spatula, and the the shape finally adjusted with a potter's wheel.
