Thought to have been made in the Edo period (17-19th C.), this horse bit, used to fix a horse's reins in its mouth, is distinguished by its decorative peach fruit motifs. Despite having been forged from iron, it has been made such that any forge-welds are hidden.
According to the writing on the box, this horse bit was dedicated to Toyohara Kitajima Shrine by Ikeda Tsunamasa (1638-1714), lord of the Okayama domain.
