Kabuyama kofun is one of a set of keyhole-shaped burial mounds (zenpō kōenfun) that surround Ushimado harbor. A moat can clearly be seen around the square front end of the kofun and, if the accompanying embankment is included, the kofun as a whole can be measured at over 100m long. Based on the shape of the kofun itself and typologies of the clay haniwa figures found on the site, it is thought to have been built in the latter half of the 5th century.
