This lamellar armour, laced with red braid in the vertical alternately crossing sugakeodoshi style, was made in the late Muromachi period (16th c.). Although the silver part has tarnished and turned black, it seems likely that it originally had a brilliant polished finish.
It is said that Ukita Motoie, a nephew of Ukita Naoie, wore this lamellar armour during a battle against the Mōri in Tensho 9, 1581. Two bullet holes can be seen in the upper section of this armour’s helmet.
